Matthew A. Tarakji, DDS
Dr. Tarakji is a Board Certified Oral Surgeon with 20 years of experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at The University of Michigan School of Dentistry in Ann Arbor in 1997. He graduated with honors and was the recipient of the following awards: Omega Kamma Upsilon award of the National Dental Honorary Society, an award that is given to the graduates in the top five percent of the class, The Chalmers Society Oral Surgery award which is given for excellence in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the undergraduate level, and the Comprehensive Care Award which is given to dental students for excellence in all aspects of dental care at the undergraduate level.
His passion for oral surgery developed during his third year of dental school and following his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery rotation at The University of Michigan Medical Center after participating and observing Oral Surgery procedures. During his dental training in Michigan he went on to attend Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery externships at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Columbia University Medical Center in New York, and University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
After graduating from dental school, Dr. Tarakji completed four years of residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The Jersey City Medical Center and St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. He spent the last 18 months of his training serving as the chief resident of the program. Dr. Tarakji’s training was comprehensive with emphasis on Maxillofacial trauma, dental implants, complex dental and wisdom teeth extractions, outpatient intravenous anesthesia, and oral pathology.
Dr. Tarakji is a Board Certified Oral Surgeon. He became a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons after his successful completion of the written and oral examinations of the American Board of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery in 2003 and he was awarded a diplomate status. He successfully completed his ten year board recertification last year.
Dr. Tarakji also became a fellow of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology after his successful completion of the National Dental Anesthesiology Board examination in 2004, he was awarded a diplomate status.
Dr. Tarakji is on staff at Providence Little Company Of Mary Hospital and Torrance Memorial Medical Center.
Dr. Tarakji resides in the South Bay with his wife and two children. During his free time, he enjoys cycling and hiking.
